MARTIN LUTHER KING, III’S ‘POVERTY IN AMERICA’ DOCUMENTARY PREMIERES NOVEMBER 14 ON AMERICANLIFE TV NETWORK
Civil Rights Activist and Former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young Narrates

WASHINGTON -- AmericanLife TV NetworkSM (www.americanlifetv.com), the cable network devoted to the Baby Boomer generation, will be premiering Martin Luther King, IIIs Poverty in America two-hour documentary in two parts: Wednesday, November 14 from 8-9:00 p.m., ET/PT and concluding Thursday, November 15 from 8-9:00 p.m., ET/PT. Narrated by civil rights activist Andrew Young, former mayor of Atlanta and the United States first African-American United Nations ambassador, the special follows Kings cross-country tour as he uncovers and learns firsthand about poverty in the richest country on the face of the earth. The documentary chronicles Kings Poverty in America tour this year, which visited 35 impoverished communities, including areas of Washington, D.C., the Bay Area of California, Northern New Mexico and Appalachia. Kings goal was to speak with the people who have been left behind in America today, touching upon such topics as education, health, affordable housing, unemployment and crime. During the tour, he started dialogue with community leaders to discover avenues to combat poverty. Poverty in America offers an unprecedented look into issues happening in this country right now and we have discovered that most Americans think that poverty is a minority problem, but in fact, it is not, said Larry Meli, president and COO of AmericanLife TV Network. As Baby Boomers remain as socially-conscious now as they were in their youth, we are confident that this documentary will help raise awareness for this often overlooked crisis happening in America.Through my Looking, Listening and Learning Tour, I was proud to be able to carry on my familys legacy by talking to the real experts on poverty to gain a unique insight into their most pressing problems and priorities, said King. The premiere of Poverty in America will further illustrate the issues and discussions that I will be presenting on Capitol Hill, along with the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, in my Poverty in America: Voice of Poverty Voices of Hope white paper on October 24.When Martin approached me about narrating Poverty in America, I couldnt think of a better cause to lend my time and voice to, said Young. My involvement in this documentary is another way for me to use my government and social activism experience to help rally for the challenges people are facing on a daily basis in this country. Poverty in America will have the following primetime encores: part one (Wednesday, November 14 at 1 a.m.; Thursday, November 15 at 3 p.m.; Wednesday, November 21 at 8 p.m. and 12 a.m.; Friday, November 23 at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.; and Saturday, November 24 at 7 p.m.) and part two (Thursday, November 15 at 1 a.m.; Friday, November 16 at 3 p.m.; Wednesday, November 21 at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.; Friday, November 23 at 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.; and Saturday, November 24 at 8 p.m.).
